4 Reasons Why You Should Make the Switch to High-Density Interconnect Circuit Boards

High-density interconnect circuit boards are changing the way both small and large manufacturers develop electronic devices. HDI offers many clear benefits over traditional PCBs. 1. Make Your Product Smaller and Lighter

Using HDI circuit boards will allow you to shrink the size of your product. Making your product more portable will seem far more appealing to people who live in a world of small but powerful tech. 2. Give Your Products a Little Extra Damage Control

HDI boards are more compact and generally sturdier because of that. This makes then far less prone to mechanical shocks or damage from impacts and vibrations that occur to the finished product. Packing in components so closely on those multiple layers also comes with the added benefit of faster and more efficient connections between those components. Here's where the "interconnect" part of HDI comes in. This is mostly accomplished through tiny vias and smaller traces.

Lasers drill the small vias that connect your layers. There's a lot of different configurations depending on your stackup and the duties you have assigned to the components of each layer. The micro-vias allow for extremely efficient passage of signals between components and layers without delay or loss.

HDI boards offer a tremendous amount of value. However, the nature of these boards requires that you and your team plan them out very carefully. They're not a project you should give to just any PCB manufacturer. You should only consider professionals with a good background of manufacturing them for your project.
